General Laborer – Columbia Asphalt Plant
The role requires a commitment to safety excellence and the ability to work safely under the policies and procedures of the company. The candidate will provide labor support for asphalt plant and road construction operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform physical exertion tasks, such as shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt or concrete using short or long-handled shovels.
- Cut or trim trees and vegetation using axes, ditch blades, sling blades, chainsaws or power weed trimmers.
- Drive stakes or break pavement using sledge hammers, dig holes with hand‑operated post hole diggers, and operate hand‑driven compaction devices.
- Broom dirt and debris using hand brooms.
- Work at asphalt plants, existing roads or streets under traffic, new roads and streets without traffic, building sites or office/shop facilities.
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies.
- Previous experience in road and/or site construction is preferred.
- Preferred driving license; reliable transportation to job sites is required.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent safety awareness and willingness to comply with company safety standards.
- Expectations of periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Wear appropriate safety attire at all times, including safety vests, safety glasses, long pants, and safety‑toed shoes.
- Ability to provide documentation proving the legal right to work in the United States.
Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; walk; talk; hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with 20/40 vision, naturally or with corrective lenses. Hearing should be excellent or corrected by an audio device.
WorkEnvironment
Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, wet and/or humid conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually very loud.
