PLANT QUALITY ENGINEER – DUNCAN, SOUTH CAROLINA – DUNCAN PLANT
The primary focus of the Plant Quality Engineer is executing product and process controls per the control plan in conjunction with the plant’s production team. This includes leading the 8D problem resolution process for internal and external raised concerns, working closely with the Customer Quality Engineer on problem‑resolution updates, supporting customer feedback meetings, and providing weekly internal plant quality report outs.
The RoleYour work will include, but is not limited to:
- Maintaining ongoing compliance with production control plans, including documentation review throughout the program lifecycle.
- Ensuring that test/measurement equipment is used correctly, calibrated, and maintained, including “red rabbit” verifications for Poka Yoke.
- Collecting, reviewing, and reacting to data captured within the manufacturing process per the control plan, updating capability studies (SPC data) and supporting continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Authoring and maintaining quality documentation (control plans, work instructions, boundary samples, appearance books, rework/inspection instructions, etc.) as part of a cross‑functional team for the production line or cell.
- Ensuring compliance with containment, rework, and inspection processes for non‑conforming product, leading disposition and ensuring timely resolution.
- Leading problem‑solving teams and the Fast Response System, driving the problem‑solving process, validating 8D content, and meeting customer and internal response time requirements.
- Facilitating the problem‑solving process for non‑conforming product with the relevant team.
- Coordinating necessary internal sorting activities.
- Resolving quality issues related to capability, tolerancing, and material.
- Implementing action plans to resolve identified problems and providing required resources.
- Performing process capability studies on existing processes, reviewing results, recommending changes, and following up to verify effectiveness.
- Participating in the modification of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Supervising Manufacturing Process Quality Inspectors/Auditors, overseeing inspection/audit processes and outputs.
- Having the authority to halt any process or product delivery in case of non‑conformance with customer expectations, safety, or environmental risks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
- 3–10 years of experience in automotive quality.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings to ensure the understanding of agreed quality parameters and product‑specific requirements.
- Experience with relevant manufacturing processes and technologies.
- Understanding of practical problem‑solving tools using the 8D methodology:
- Is‑Is Not
- Fishbone diagram
- Brainstorming
- Affinity diagrams
- Three‑legged 5‑Why
- Experience in product, process, and Layered Process Audits.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and process/production control methods such as:
- APQP
- Control Plans
- FMEA
- GD&T
- MSA
- PPAP
- SPC
