Role Overview
The primary focus of the Plant Quality Engineer is to execute product and process controls per the control plan in conjunction with the plant’s production team. Responsibilities include leading the 8D problem resolution process, supporting customer feedback meetings and weekly internal plant quality reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure ongoing compliance with production control plans and maintain documentation throughout the program life.
- Confirm that test/measurement equipment is used correctly, calibrated and maintained, including "red rabbits" for Poka Yoke verification.
- Collect, review and act on data gathered during manufacturing per the control plan, updating capability studies (SPC data). Support continuous improvement efforts.
- Approve and maintain quality documentation on behalf of quality as part of a cross functional team for production lines/cells.
- Ensure compliance with containment, rework and inspection processes for non-conforming product and lead disposition of non-conforming items.
- Lead the problem-solving team for the Fast Response System, driving the process with appropriate tools and ensuring 8D content and response time requirements are met.
- Facilitate problem-solving and internal sorting activities as needed.
- Resolve quality issues related to capability, tolerancing and materials.
- Perform process capability studies, review results and recommend process changes; verify effectiveness.
- Participate in updating Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Supervise Manufacturing Process Quality Inspectors/Auditors, responsible for inspection/audit processes and outputs.
- Have authority to halt production or product delivery in case of non-conformance to customer expectations, safety or environmental risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a technical field from an accredited institution.
- 3-10 years of automotive quality experience.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings to understand agreement on quality parameters and product-specific requirements.
Bonus
- Experience in manufacturing processes and technologies.
- Understanding of 8D methodology tools such as Is-Not, Fishbone diagram, Brainstorming, Affinity Diagrams, Three-legged 5 Why.
- Experience in product, process and Layered Process Audits.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and controls: APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, GD&T, MSA, PPAP, SPC.
