Job DescriptionPOSITION: Accountant
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting supplemented by a minimum of three years of experience.
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Responsible for processing, recording, updating and reconciling fiscal information; providing instruction and/or accounting support to other personnel; and analyzing financial activities and expenditures. Reports to Director of Finance.
Performance Responsibilities- Assist in the procurement process by reviewing pcard transactions and non-payroll requests to ensure adherence to established internal controls.
- Analyze fiscal data (e.g. contracts, reports, etc.) to determine the feasibility of services within budget parameters, make recommendations, and report abnormal activities to supervisor.
- Assist school bookkeepers with training and updating financial information for compliance with student activity funds and proper accounting of general fund appropriations.
- Communicate with personnel regarding procedures and program requirements to provide necessary information for completing transactions, taking appropriate action and complying with fiscal guidelines.
- Maintain a wide variety of fiscal information (e.g. files, records, contracts) to provide an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Monitor funds, accounts, account balances and related financial activity to ensure allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and fiscal practices are followed.
- Prepare written materials (e.g. reports, journal entries, budget transfers, program expenditure reimbursement claims) to document activities, receive monies, convey information and comply with financial, legal and administrative requirements.
- Process fiscal information for administering grant funds and authorizing action in compliance with accounting requirements.
- Analyze and submit a monthly budget status report to administrators in a timely manner.
- Reconcile cash and account balances as assigned to maintain accurate balances and comply with accounting practices.
Office environment with no exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are limited to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and meeting tight deadlines. Duties require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
