General Laborer (Asphalt Plant Ground Person)
Location:
Columbia Asphalt Plant.
- Perform basic maintenance and service on the asphalt plant.
- Able to weld and use a cutting torch (a plus).
- Clean and maintain the yard daily.
- Keep the plant lubricated and greased.
- Maintain proper oil levels of the plant.
- Shovel, sweep, steam‑clean, paint, provide mechanical assistance, lift, push and pull various objects, and rake.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Properly complete required paperwork and records regarding repairs and maintenance.
- Use good judgment and work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Willing to learn all aspects of the asphalt plant.
- Willing to work nights and weekends, if necessary.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and 1–3 months of related experience and/or training.
- Must be able to work nights, primarily during night shifts.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Provide own transportation to and from work.
- Valid driving license preferred.
The employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, talk, and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses.
Hearing should be excellent or corrected by an audio device.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually very loud.
