JOB SUMMARY
The Utilities Maintenance Worker I ensures the upkeep and care of water and wastewater systems. This is accomplished by maintaining and installing water and wastewater systems throughout the city and maintaining the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSRepairs and maintains water and sewer systems by changing out and repairing lines, main breaks, and hydrants, unstopping mains, cleaning valves, removing debris, changing out meters, installing new parts and equipment, and inspecting lines
- Operates major pieces of machinery and equipment
- Drives and maintains a truck and performs truck inspections
- Participates in the on-call rotation every 6 weeks
- Prepares for severe weather, ice control, and storm damage
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to use or repair small/light equipment such as power tools.
- Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
- Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Ability to use or repair heavy or complex machinery, such as HVAC systems, construction equipment, or water plants.
- Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.
This position is eligible for 4 10-hour days scheduling upon the successful completion of a six-month probationary period and at supervisor's discretion.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSRequires a High School Diploma.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a Class "C" Driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Class "B" CDL Driver's license within 3 months of City provided required training. Must be able to obtain a Class C Water license through TCEQ within 2 years of hire.
