Introduction
The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) is seeking qualified external applicants for the position of Assessments Office Manager Assistant
B. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced administrative professional with a background in processing property assessment records and forms who is ready to advance into a supervisory role in public service. The selected candidate will assist with overseeing clerical operations, supervising and evaluating staff, coordinating workloads, reviewing production reports, improving administrative procedures, and responding to inquiries from property owners, government officials, other agencies, and the public.

Responsible for assisting the Assessments Office Manager in all clerical operations within the County Assessment Office.
POSITION DUTIES- Interacts with the general public both in person and by phone to respond to technical issues related to the assessment process, property values and/or general office procedures.
- Delegates duties to subordinate employees and monitors workflow to insure the timely and accurate completion of office assignments.
- Evaluates subordinate employees to assess work quality by regularly monitoring work performance.
- Assists the Office Manager in the development and implementation of clerical office policy and procedures to improve clerical office operations.
- Trains and instructs subordinates staff on the job duties and office procedures to follow, to insure compliance with departmental procedures and state regulations.
- Preforms others duties as may be required and assigned.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Four years of clerical or technical experience in processing property assessment records and forms.
Notes:
- 1. Candidates may substitute additional experience performing general clerical duties on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required education.
- 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in financial administration and program classification or financial administration and program specialty codes in the accounting and budget field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
- Experience preparing reports, correspondence, recommendations, or other professional documents.
- Experience using databases, electronic records-management systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar software.
- Strong organizational, leadership, customer-service, written communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience reviewing staff production reports, monitoring workloads, establishing performance goals, and recommending operational improvements.
- Experience responding to inquiries from government officials, other agencies, property owners, and the general public.
- Experience supervising, training, assigning work to, or evaluating clerical or administrative staff.
Must be willing to work in Worcester County Assessments Office.
