Project Facilities Manager

Job Description Summary

The Department of Facilities, Facilities Planning, Design & Construction invites applicants to apply for a full‑time, temporary, contractual, exempt position. The role has a six‑month term with no regular benefits and reports directly to the Director. The Project Facilities Manager will manage small to mid‑size renovation and capital improvement projects and support larger capital initiatives from planning through construction closeout, collaborating with campus leaders, design professionals, contractors, and consultants to translate institutional needs into well‑executed built outcomes.

Salary: $10,000 per month.

  No regular benefits.
• Safe and Sick Leave Only:
  Accrual and use determined by Maryland law (see guidelines below).
• Accrual: 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per calendar year.
• Carry‑over:
  Up to 40 hours per year; total accrual capped at 64 hours.
• Usage:
  May begin using leave 106 days after hire; termination entitles no payment but allows reinstatement if re‑employed within 37 weeks.

• Manage assigned renovation and capital improvement projects from scope development through construction close‑out.
• Coordinate with campus stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to advance design and construction activities.
• Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure alignment with institutional goals.
• Review construction documents, submittals, RFIs, and change orders in collaboration with senior leadership.
• Conduct site visits to observe progress and support quality control.
• Maintain organized project documentation and provide regular project status updates.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

• May require bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.
• May require work in adverse weather conditions and usage of personal protective equipment.
• May involve operation of office equipment and a variety of tools.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Experience:
  
  Five years of progressively responsible project management experience, including three years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Optional:
  Up to four years of additional related experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for required education.
• Skills:
  
  Proficiency in project planning, execution, risk management, and Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
• Knowledge:
  Project management best practices, institutional capital budgeting, and contract administration.

• Master’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field.
• Five to ten years of progressively responsible experience managing capital construction projects, preferably in institutional or higher education settings.
• Experience with renovation or laboratory projects, sustainability, deferred maintenance planning, or research/laboratory facilities.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and project scheduling tools.
• Strong attention to detail, accountability, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Collaborative working style and excellent organization and problem‑solving skills.

• Project Management Professional (PMP) – preferred.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM) – preferred.
• LEED accreditation – preferred.
