Safety Supervisor

Position Overview

The Safety Supervisor supports the Safety Director in developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive safety programs and training standards. This role is vital to minimizing workplace accidents and ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory standards. The Safety Supervisor conducts visual site inspections across various workplaces and job locations to maintain a secure environment for all employees.

  • Reports To: Safety Director
  • Position Type: Full-time (At-will)
  • Location: Requires travel to local and out-of-town job sites

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Field Audits: Inspect work areas, project sites, and operational processes proactively to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Coordinate regular, routine site visits with the Safety Director to address emerging issues.
  • Emergency Response: Maintain 24/7 availability to respond to on-site emergencies and accidents as needed.
  • Incident Investigation: Review incident reports alongside the Safety Director to determine root causes and implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to, uphold, and enforce Company Safety Policy, OSHA, and MOSHA standards. Resolve unsafe conditions immediately and communicate findings to the Safety Director in a timely manner.
  • Training & Development: Support the Safety Director in designing safety training presentations and materials. Regularly facilitate safety meetings, lectures, and training sessions for employees.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Safety Acumen: Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills to identify risks and design proactive accident-reduction plans.
  • Leadership & Influence: Ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and drive safety compliance through positive influence, integrity, and strong teamwork.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to leverage digital devices and IT software to generate detailed, clear safety reports.
  • Organization: Proven multitasking abilities with strong organizational skills to manage multiple job sites and shifting priorities.
  • Bilingual Skills: Verbal proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a safety-related or industry-specific field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of field experience.
  • Certifications: Must possess standard industry safety credentials and certifications.
  • Experience: Experience in both infrastructure and building construction is preferred.

Work Context & Physical Requirements

  • Environmental Conditions: Regularly works outdoors near moving mechanical equipment, exposed to varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, dust, and asphalt) and loud construction noise.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, or perform strenuous labor for extended periods.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness and flexibility to travel and stay out of town for up to a week at a time upon request.
  • Health & Safety Gear: Must possess the physical dexterity and focus needed for construction safety, including passing a respirator fit test if required.
