Project Engineer, Environmental Engineer

Nexus Waste to Value (Nexus W2V) is a next-generation renewable natural gas infrastructure company that develops, owns, and operates facilities converting organic waste into clean energy. Backed by OIC Infrastructure Equity with over $140M in committed financing, Nexus W2V is constructing its flagship anaerobic digestion facility in Indiana (Kingsbury Bio Energy) and building toward a scaled, multi-asset platform spanning RNG, wastewater, and biomass energy, with a growing pipeline of acquisitions and greenfield opportunities.

The Project Engineer will support the development and execution of sustainable infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on advancing projects from early-stage evaluation and conceptual design through financial close. The project portfolio may include anaerobic digestion, renewable natural gas, composting, biochar, wastewater treatment, materials recovery facilities, waste processing, and related environmental and utility infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, develop and challenge technical assumptions, coordinate effectively with external engineering and vendor teams, make progress with incomplete or evolving information, and translate complex technical information into clear recommendations for project and investment decisions.

• Develop and evaluate project concepts, design criteria, process configurations, capacity assumptions, and equipment requirements.
• Prepare or review heat and mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, conceptual layouts, and general arrangement drawings.
• Identify technical risks, design constraints, data gaps, and key assumptions required to advance projects.
• Support technical inputs required for project financial models, development milestones, and investment decisions.

• Prepare or review technical information for permit applications.
• Develop or guide contractors in the development of process descriptions, calculations, drawings, site information, and responses to regulatory questions.
• Evaluate wastewater treatment needs, residuals management, emissions, odor, stormwater, contact water, and environmental controls.
• Assess site access, traffic, utilities, grading, drainage, storage, buildings, environmental constraints, and future expansion requirements.
• Coordinate technical input from environmental consultants, laboratories, civil engineers, regulators, and other project participants.

• Support the evaluation of existing facilities or projects in development for acquisition
• Evaluate process technologies and systems, equipment vendors, and engineering or EPC teams.
• Review operating data, drawings, technical reports, equipment information, and other available project documentation.
• Participate in site visits, facility inspections, vendor meetings, and reference-facility evaluations.
• Prepare concise technical evaluations and recommendations for project development, acquisitions, investments, and partnerships.

• Develop project capital and operating cost estimates.
• Prepare RFQs, RFPs, and other procurement documentation, evaluate proposals, develop bid comparisons, and technical recommendations for vendor and contractor selection.
• Support technical and commercial negotiations and coordinate key interfaces among vendors, consultants, and project teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, environmental, civil, industrial, process, biological, agricultural, or a related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 6–10 years of relevant engineering experience in industrial, environmental, energy, waste, wastewater, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience supporting projects through multiple stages of the project lifecycle, with exposure to construction, startup, commissioning, and/or facility operations strongly preferred.
