The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 203-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore.
MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. The Port of Baltimore plays an integral role as an economic generator and job creator, in addition to maintaining our nation's supply chain and moving vital goods to industries and consumers. As one of the nation's top ports for total cargo tonnage and overall dollar value of cargo, the Port of Baltimore, is also one of the most diverse ports in the United States with over 140,000 jobs linked to port activity.
MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Electro-Mechanical Crane Technician III for the Crane and Fleet Division. The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain, inspect and repair any crane and Passenger Boarding Bridge at the Maryland Port Administration's facilities. The position is also responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance to all unique electrical, electronic, computer, and mechanical components of the container, portal, and whirley cranes.
The position also serves as a crew leader over a group of MPA Electro-Mechanical Crane Technicians, Crane Electricians, and Crane Mechanics. This position also provides oversight to crane operations in order to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and to minimize downtime. Regularly the position is required to perform pier duty, monitor operations breakdowns in order to diagnose problems and make repairs to the port cranes.
Some of the essential duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform startup and shut down of all cranes.
- Complete preventative maintenance on the cranes to include lubricating components changing oil and filters and changing hydraulic fluids and filters.
- Perform mechanical and electrical inspection on the cranes and Passenger Boarding Bridge.
- Make emergency repairs that can be made quickly and safely remedied while crane is in operation.
- Watch over and instruct lower-level technicians.
