Position SummaryThe Safety Support Specialist supports the environmental health, safety, and physical security functions of Campus Police & Public Safety. The position assists with the inspection, documentation, and coordination of life safety systems, including fire extinguishers, AEDs, emergency lighting, eyewash stations, and related safety infrastructure. This individual provides technical and administrative support for compliance documentation, vendor coordination, and project tracking, while assisting with basic troubleshooting of security and safety systems.
This position requires strong attention to detail, database proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse, multicultural college community is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct regular inspections of life safety and emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers, AEDs, emergency lighting, eyewash stations, and safety showers.
2. Document inspection results and ensure corrective actions are logged and completed in coordination with the EHS /EM Specialist and Systems Technician.
3. Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of safety and security systems, including alarms, panic buttons, and emergency notification devices.
4. Maintain accurate digital records, databases, and inspection logs to support internal audits and external compliance reporting.
5. Coordinate vendor activities for testing, repairs, and maintenance of life safety and security systems.
6. Support small-scale safety and security projects, including equipment installations, signage updates, and systems testing.
7. Participate in safety drills, emergency preparedness exercises, and alarm testing as part of the College’s crisis management and continuity plans.
8. Develop and maintain procedural checklists, inspection schedules, and compliance documentation.
9. Assist in the preparation of OSHA , MOSH , NFPA , and COMAR inspection reports and responses.
10. Provide technical and administrative support to the EHS /EM Specialist and Systems Technician for project coordination, inventory tracking, and documentation.
11. Contribute to departmental initiatives that enhance campus safety awareness, training, and operational efficiency.
