Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Supervisor to work on an 18-Month Contract based in Dundee.
Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join a substation project team in the Dundee area, working on live transmission infrastructure. This is a site-based supervisory role covering mechanical installation, testing, and commissioning activities within a high voltage substation environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising site mechanical teams, ensuring safe systems of work are followed, and maintaining programme and quality standards throughout the contract.
Responsibilities- Provide day‑to‑day mechanical supervision of site operatives and subcontractors within the substation compound
- Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with site‑specific safe systems of work, permits, and risk assessments
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical installation, testing, and commissioning activities, including plant, cooling, and fire suppression systems
- Support the delivery of temporary works on site, liaising with the Temporary Works Coordinator where applicable
- Carry out site inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings
- Monitor compliance with CDM regulations and client HSQE requirements
- Liaise with the Site Manager, client representatives, and design team to resolve technical and programme issues
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, permits, and inspection reports
- Act as Fire Marshall and First Aider for the site team as required
- Support incident and near‑miss reporting, investigation, and close‑out
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor within HV/EHV substation environments
- SSSTS or SMSTS (valid and in date)
- CSCS or CCNSG
- Cat 3 SSE Authorisation
- Valid First Aid at Work certificate
- Fire Marshall / Fire Warden certificate
- Strong working knowledge of safe systems of work, permits to work, and isolation procedures within a substation setting
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
- Must operate via a Limited company (Ltd company contractors only – no umbrella/PAYE)
- Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification
- Previous experience on SSEN/SSE Transmission framework projects
- Experience with HVDC or GIS/AIS substation works
