Duties SummaryAssist higher level Pesticide Specialists while receiving training in professional pesticide management work; and perform other related duties as assigned. Under close supervision, may perform duties such as: conduct inspections and provide basic advisory services to pesticide distributors, sellers, and users; review and issue certifications or permits to pesticide applicators; monitor and inspect operations where pesticides are sold; and investigate public complaints of pesticide misuse.

Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Note:
Your calculation of experience must be based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example:
Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example:
Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in agriculture; or a biological, physical, or environmental science; or a related science field. Coursework must have included eight semester credit hours in chemistry. The education background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written materials; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
Administrative, professional or analytical work which provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those acquired in four years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in the fields indicated above, may be substituted for Education on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level, and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities, including that gained from eight semester credit hours in chemistry.
Special Requirements
- Ability to wear a respirator and/or a self contained breathing apparatus and be certified by a physician to be capable of wearing respiratory protection when necessary.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs. unassisted and up to 80 lbs. assisted by another person and/or the use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).
- Ability to travel to other islands and to the mainland for training as needed.
License: A valid driver’s license is required.
