Pastor, Disciple

The Pastor of Disciple Life provides pastoral leadership and oversight for the discipleship and Christian education ministries of First Baptist Atlanta (FBA). This role leads and supervises all Family Ministries and Adult Life pastors, directors, and key staff; equips and develops teachers and volunteers; and provides direct teaching within the church’s discipleship strategy. Under the spiritual guidance of the Senior Pastor, the Director of Disciple Life ensures that all discipleship ministries reflect biblical truth, foster Christ-centered fellowship, and remain aligned with the beliefs, values, and mission of FBA.

• Must have a growing and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Must demonstrate pastoral leadership marked by integrity, humility, and spiritual maturity
• Must possess strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively supervise pastors, directors, staff, and volunteers
• Must be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, capable of teaching Scripture clearly and leading ministry teams
• Bachelor’s degree required; seminary training or a Master’s degree preferred, with strong preference given to graduates of a Southern Baptist Convention–affiliated seminary
• Minimum of five years of ministry leadership experience in discipleship, Christian education, or spiritual formation
• Must embrace and embody the church’s Red Carpet Standard (H.E.A.R.T.)
• Must affirm, uphold, and teach in accordance with the beliefs, values, and mission of FBA. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • A commitment to confidentiality
  • A commitment to abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drug use
  • A commitment to abide by FBA and Family Ministries social media policies
  • A commitment to faithful tithing

• Provides pastoral leadership and vision for Disciple Life ministries in alignment with the mission, beliefs, and doctrine of FBA
• Leads and supervises pastors, directors, and key staff within Family Ministries and Adult Life
• Ensures all teaching, curriculum, and ministry practices align with the beliefs of FBA, under the spiritual guidance of the Senior Pastor
• Develops and oversees a comprehensive discipleship and Christian education strategy across Family and Adult ministries
• Teaches classes and discipleship environments as part of the church’s overall discipleship strategy
• Supports and guides direct reports in the planning and execution of meaningful ministry events that foster biblical fellowship, encourage spiritual growth, and create opportunities for individuals and families to encounter Jesus Christ
• Assists pastors and directors in developing and stewarding ministry budgets in a manner that reflects biblical stewardship and responsible use of church resources
• Ensures Disciple Life ministries provide safe, secure, and well-prepared environments for services, classes, events, and programming
• Supports the implementation of appropriate safety, security, and child-protection practices in alignment with church policies
• Establishes ministry goals and evaluates effectiveness through regular assessment and review

• Performs annual performance reviews for direct reports
• Provides training opportunities and resources for the spiritual, professional, and leadership development of staff and volunteers
• Encourages collaboration, unity, and healthy communication across church-wide ministries
• Pursues professional growth and collaboration with other churches and ministries as appropriate
• Supports church-wide initiatives and strategic priorities as directed by leadership
