Salary: $24 to $25.56 per hour

Job Description

Durango School District is accepting applications for a Senior Administrative Assistant to the Principal at Durango High School. This is a 12 month position, full time, 8 hrs day, 40 hrs wk. Includes benefits and begins 7/1/26.

Responsible for providing administrative/secretarial support to principal and other designated staff. Duties include performing personnel management functions for support staff and substitutes; screening and directing phone calls; assisting with financial duties and monitoring school budget; creating and maintaining internal communications to staff and building partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative/secretarial support to the Principal and other designated staff by composing, typing, word processing and formatting correspondence, newsletters, handbooks, reports and programs; managing calendars; coordinating meetings, taking and distributing minutes; creating and maintaining filing systems; preparing mail; responding to general public calls; and other related duties.
  • Perform personnel management functions including managing employee time and attendance, entering data, submitting reports, managing substitute coverage, updating personnel changes, preparing payroll documents, scheduling interviews; assisting supervisors with new hires and orientation.
  • Assist with financial duties for the school including monitoring budgets, reporting variances, maintaining bookkeeping databases, processing purchasing card requisitions, inventorying shipments, managing purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, collecting student parking fees, fundraisers, fines, and other activities; preparing bank deposits and reports; managing petty cash account; reconciling accounts and bank statements; processing monthly budget reports; handling refunds and reimbursements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including internal communications to staff and building partners; providing back‑up coverage to other positions, registering new students, member of the safety team, testing preparations, attendance, assisting students in the health clinic, contacting parents/guardians, reception duties, parent/teacher conferences; assist students with minor injuries and illnesses and dispense authorized medication.
  • Other duties as assigned: general building operations in concert with school leadership; point of contact for Facilities and other District Departments at DHS, manage work orders, space reservations and IT tickets; managing bell software; electronic student  hallpass platform management; assigning and tracking building access for staff; assisting with planning and executing the Graduation Ceremony.
Education and Training

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Experience in an educational setting is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.

Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations

Criminal background check required for hire. CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required one month after hire. Meds administration required one month after hire.
