Job Summary: Examines, diagnoses and treats initial and acute phases of illnesses and injuries. Provides and directs the provision of care for the immediate diagnosis, stabilization, and disposition of life-threatening conditions throughout the hospital. In collaboration with the Medical Director, Chief of Staff, the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Nursing Officer work effectively to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care.

Hourly Rate (Exempt): $145.00

Essential Job Functions:

• Directs the operation of hospital emergency and related outpatient services including prehospital care.
• Responds in accordance with accepted standards to emergencies throughout hospital.
• Provides training and supervision to medical, nursing and ancillary personnel in aspects of resuscitation, including identification and treatment of cardiac, traumatic and infectious emergencies.
• Works with the department management to ensure optimal training and skill performance by all personnel assigned to the emergency services.
• Supervises patient care activities of nurses, technicians and other staff assigned to the emergency department.
• Provides and coordinates emergent and supportive care to patients with serious medical and surgical conditions throughout the hospital until the care of that patient can be assumed by the appropriate specialist.
• Available to provide Pre-surgical history and physical exams.
• Works with disaster planning and hospital command personnel to design effective prehospital and initial hospital care and triage activities for disaster and mass casualty situations. Functions as supervisor in disaster and mass casualty situations.
• Provides in-service training for emergency and hospital staff in selected topics, from time to time.
• Assists in internal quality assurance measures department and hospital wide.
• Provides for 24 – 7 coverage of department.
• Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.

• Comply with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
• Attends meetings and participates in committees as necessary or required.
• Must have interpersonal skills to deal harmoniously with staff, patients and family members.
• MD or DO with current experience in emergency medicine.
• Valid and unrestricted Colorado Medical License.
• Ability to be credentialed by Animas Health Medical Executive Committee.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible.
• Current ACLS, PALS or other equivalent certifications if not Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.

Physical Requirements

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50) + pounds while administering care to patients. Stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily in delivery of patient care. Standing and walking for more than five (5) hours per day; running occasionally in responding to patient care emergencies.
