Assist the bus driver in managing student conduct and ensuring passenger safety during daily routes, and support students’ transportation needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the bus driver in maintaining safe student conduct by monitoring behavior, providing a positive tone, and redirecting inappropriate behavior.
- Help students load and unload the bus, including wheelchairs, strollers, and other passengers, and maneuver items onto ramps, curbs, and inside buildings.
- Coordinate with school staff and Student Support Services when working with students holding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans to address transportation needs.
- Secure passengers’ wheelchairs, strollers, etc., and fasten all protective safety devices, car seats, lap belts, and T‑straps.
- Maintain the emergency card book for passengers.
- Complete and submit required paperwork while ensuring confidentiality of student information; provide written documentation for violations of the student code.
- Assist driver with emergency evacuation plans and drills; attend training and required meetings.
- Provide first aid, including CPR, during emergency situations or mechanical failures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
ExperienceNone required; experience working with children preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and RegistrationsCPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required within two months after hire.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within three months of hire.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Manage multiple priorities.
- Promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and department procedures.
- Work with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Utilize non‑violent and physical intervention techniques.
- Apply first-aide skills.
Operating knowledge with wheelchair lifts required within two weeks of hire.
Operating knowledge of protective safety devices, car seats, lap belts, and T‑straps required within one month of hire.
