Durango School District is accepting applications for a part-time Reading and Writing Interventionist to join the team at Park Elementary School in the 2026/2027 school year. This is a .5 FTE (20 hours/week) position that requires a Colorado Teaching License with the ability to support elementary level literacy. The position begins August 17, 2026.

Assist teachers in developing and delivering interventions to students who need additional support in a variety of academic content areas, including English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. In collaboration with teachers, plan and deliver interventions and specialized instruction. Supervise assigned students, maintain a positive learning environment, and actively monitor student goals. Work with core teachers to provide direct and indirect support, adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs, resulting in increased student achievement.
Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Work with classroom teachers to develop and implement interventions for students who need additional support in core academic areas. Assist in monitoring goals and outcomes and maintain communication with families regarding student progress.
- Utilize effective teaching practices to teach the adopted curricula for assigned grades and subjects so that students attain grade/course expectations and standards. Modify and tailor curriculum as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and student abilities.
- Develop lesson plans and instruct with adopted materials. Utilize supplemental classroom materials, media, and appropriate teaching methods for assigned levels and subjects.
- Use formative and summative assessments to analyze learning, achievement, and performance for each student, reporting results as required by district policy and school procedures.
- Model, promote, and provide character education instruction related to citizenship, responsible behavior, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and responsible work habits and ethics.
- Implement student IEPs, 504 Plans, and Behavior Support Plans as outlined. Attend related meetings and provide updates to case managers.
- Provide safety instruction when activities pose potential harm. Emphasize use of protective devices and adherence to safety requirements.
- Maintain an orderly, positive learning environment, enforcing proactive classroom management strategies and the Student Conduct Code. Supervise students to minimize violent behavior and accidents.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with families to share information about the student's educational program and improve home‑school cooperation.
- Work with the IEP team to develop behavior support plans, health plans, safety plans, and/or crisis plans when necessary.
- Abide by all applicable federal and Colorado laws, board policies, district regulations, and employment procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of students, including supervising them at all times.
- Demonstrate faithfulness and promptness in attendance.
- Submit required reports promptly.
- Care for and protect school district property.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
- Use the district’s internet and e‑mail system as specified by policy.
- Fulfill other duties assigned by the principal, superintendent, or their designees.
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in a related subject from an accredited university.
Experience is preferred but not required for hiring.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONSColorado Teaching License.
