Job Summary

Durango School District invites applications for a Math Teacher at Durango High School for the 2026/2027 school year. Applicants must meet CDE and ESSA In‑Field Teacher requirements for Secondary Math by position start date. The school offers a full benefits package and a one‑time $1,800 bonus for the 2026/27 school year (pro‑rated for late start). Workforce housing options are available beginning in the 2026/27 school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilize effective teaching practices to deliver the adopted curriculum for assigned grades and subjects and help students meet grade/course expectations and standards, modifying and tailoring instruction to individual student differences and abilities.
  • Develop lesson plans and instruct with adopted materials, supplementing with classroom resources, media, and appropriate teaching aids.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to gauge student learning, achievement, and performance, and report results as required by District policy and school procedures.
  • Model and promote character education—citizenship, responsible behavior, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and work ethics—when appropriate.
  • Implement IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior support plans, attend related meetings, and provide updates to case managers.
  • Give safety instruction for subjects or activities that involve potential hazards and enforce use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly classroom environment, enforce the Student Conduct Code, and minimize violence or accidents.
  • Build ongoing relationships with families, sharing information about students’ educational programs, and promote positive home‑school connections.
  • Collaborate with the IEP team on behavior support, health, safety, and crisis plans as needed.
  • Abide by all applicable federal, state, and Colorado laws, Board of Education policies, district regulations, and school employment procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure student safety and welfare and supervise students at all times.
  • Show faithfulness and punctuality in attendance.

Education and Training

Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.

Experience

Experience is preferred but may not be required for hiring.

Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations

Colorado Teaching License with endorsements for the levels and subject areas taught. Pass the PLACE or PRAXIS II Test. Meet CDE and ESSA requirements for an In‑Field Teacher. CPI training may be required depending on assignment.
