Job Description

Job Title: Media Tech/Instructional Para educator

Location: Miller Middle School, Durango School District

Start Date: August 17, 2026

Technician and classroom support position. 9‑month assignment (full-time), 40% media technology, 60% instructional assistance. Includes a $1,800 pro‑rated bonus. Salary: $21.38–$23.02 per hour.

Summary

Assist teacher with instructional duties, reinforce materials and skills, implement curriculum, maintain technology, and manage student behavior. Support the Miller Middle School media center: circulate materials (including Chromebooks), troubleshoot issues, and monitor student behavior during media center hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide and maintain a media center climate that promotes student learning and inquiry.
  • Supervise students in the media center.
  • Instruct and assist students, staff, and patrons with locating digital resources and tools, and at times, print resource materials.
  • Assist with distribution of student technology/digital resources.
  • Assist students/staff with checking out and returning print resources.
  • Inventory and distribute computer equipment, including Chrome books, throughout the school year.
  • Assist staff and students in the use of technology to facilitate digital literacy.
  • Provide supervision and direction for volunteers and student assistants in the media center.
  • Assist teachers with lesson plans implementation, classroom maintenance, skill reinforcement, assessment administration, progress monitoring, instructional material preparation, clerical duties, file and record maintenance, learning environment setup, tutoring, and leading small‑group or one‑on‑one activities.
  • Supervise and monitor student behavior during daily activities (cafeteria, playground, hallway, buses, cross‑walks, field trips, etc.).
  • Perform lunch, recess, and cross‑walk duties as assigned.
  • Assist with office duties, including answering phones, updating and maintaining databases, maintaining records, directing visitors, preparing reports and correspondence, processing mail, filing, and updating the school website.
  • Oversee the media center usage calendar.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
Education and Training

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum two years of college coursework (e.g., associate’s degree) or 48 semester hours, or pass the paraprofessional test (CDE and ESSA qualifications) prior to hire.

Experience

None required. Experience in a school setting and/or educational training preferred. Experience with digital resources and technology preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

None required. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required within three months after hire. Criminal background check required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Equipment

Demonstrated capacity to contribute to a team‑working environment and collaborate with co‑workers. Commitment to customer service and student safety. Interpersonal, communication, basic language, basic math, and basic writing skills. Desire to work with children and children with special needs. Basic operating knowledge of general office equipment and microcomputers preferred.

  • Operating knowledge and experience with typical office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, and e‑mail.
