Job DescriptionDurango School District is accepting applications for a part‑time (20 hours/week) Digital Media/Broadcast Journalism Teacher to join the team at Durango High School for the 2026/2027 school year. Must meet CDE and ESSA requirements for In‑Field Teacher by the start date. Begins August 17, 2026. This position includes a $900 one‑time FTE pro‑rated bonus.

SUMMARY: Plan instruction and assessment aligned with district learner outcomes and state achievement standards. Supervise assigned students and maintain a positive learning environment. Adapt instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students, increasing probability of advancing achievement. Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Utilize effective teaching practices to teach the adopted curricula for assigned grades and subjects so that students attain grade/course expectations and standards. Modify and tailor the curriculum as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and abilities.
- Develop lesson plans and instruct with adopted materials, utilizing supplemental classroom materials, media, and appropriate technology for assigned levels and subjects.
- Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate learning, achievement, and performance, reporting results as required by district policy and procedures.
- Model, promote, and provide instruction related to character education, citizenship, responsible behavior, bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and responsible work habits and ethics.
- Implement student IEPs, 504 Plans, and Behavior Support Plans; attend related meetings and provide updates to case managers.
- Provide safety instruction when subject activities, chemicals, products, tools, or equipment pose potential harm, ensuring students use personal protective devices and meet safety requirements.
- Maintain an orderly, positive learning environment, enforce the student conduct code, and minimize disruptive or violent behavior.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with families to share information about the student’s educational program and improve home‑school ties.
- Work with the IEP team to develop behavior support, health, safety, or crisis plans as needed.
- Abide by all applicable federal and Colorado laws, board policies, and district regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure safety and welfare of students and supervise them at all times.
- Demonstrate punctuality and faithfulness at work.
- Submit required reports promptly.
- Care for and protect school district property.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
- Use the district’s internet and e‑mail system in accordance with policy.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related subject from an accredited university.
EXPERIENCE
:
Preferred but not required.
Colorado Teaching License with endorsements for the levels and subject areas taught. Pass the PLACE or PRAXIS II Test. Meet CDE and ESSA requirements for In‑Field Teacher. CPI training may be required depending on assignment.
