Salary: $21.92 to $23.02 per hour

Start Date: August 17, 2026

Bonus: $1,080 one‑time bonus for the 26/27 school year (prorated for late start)

Summary

Durango School District is seeking a Media Tech to collaborate with the building principal in managing the library, technology, and related resources at Florida Mesa Elementary School. This role supports students, staff, and the district in providing a climate conducive to reading, learning, and collaborative use of the library and technology lab.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform circulation desk duties and activities; check in/out books, videos, and magazines; schedule A/V equipment for staff and students.
  • Provide and maintain a library climate that promotes reading, learning, collaboration, and flexible use of facilities.
  • Instruct and assist students, staff, and patrons in locating resource materials and using the computerized library card catalog; perform circulation updates.
  • Organize library materials using the Dewey Decimal System; prepare displays and bulletin boards.
  • Repair and maintain library materials.
  • Supervise students in the library and/or computer lab to maintain a learning atmosphere.
  • Generate overdue notices and determine costs for lost/damaged materials; keep accurate records of fines/payments.
  • Prepare new materials for circulation; manage cataloging new items and revise subject headings.
  • Manage inter‑library loans.
  • Train teachers, staff, and students in the use of hardware (Mimios, Smartboards, scanners, document cameras, digital cameras, etc.) and software to achieve curriculum goals.
  • Assist with inventorying computer equipment throughout the school.
  • Provide supervision and direction for volunteers and student assistants; manage volunteer schedules.
  • Oversee the library schedule.
  • Perform lunch, recess, crosswalk, and other duties as assigned.
  • Instruct students on proper library behaviors, use of shelf markers, library policies, and care of checked‑out materials.
  • Work with the District Librarian to maintain the collection and assist the principal with placing orders.
  • Act as liaison between the school and the district technology department.
  • Manage technology and equipment; troubleshoot issues and manage work orders.
  • Manage student access information for digital resources; assign and manage passwords.
  • Assist the technology department with software installation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required; experience in a school setting and/or educational training preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations

None required aside from a criminal background check.

Equipment Operating Knowledge
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office, email/calendar systems.
  • Operating knowledge of library software preferred at time of hire; required within one month of hire.
  • Operating knowledge of typical office equipment (copier, fax machine, etc.).
