Spanish Language & Culture Enrichment Lesson Facilitator

Durango School District is accepting applications for a part-time (0.40 FTE; 16 hours per week) Spanish Language & Culture Enrichment Facilitator to deliver Spanish supplemental enrichment instruction to students one (1) day per week at Sunnyside Elementary School and one (1) day per week Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School for the 2026/2027 school year. Includes part-time benefits. Starts as soon as possible.

For the 26/27 SY, this position includes an $720 one-time bonus for staff newly hired to the school district! (pro-rated for late start)

Plan instruction and assessment for supplemental enrichment lessons in Spanish language (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and culture. Assist the licensed teacher in supervising students during enrichment lessons and in maintaining a positive learning environment. Work with the licensed teacher to adapt enrichment lessons to meet the individual learning needs of all students. Maintain positive inter-personal relationships with students, parents, staff and community members.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability:

  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to teach supplemental enrichment lessons in Spanish language (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and culture.
  • Work with the licensed teacher to modify and tailor the enrichment lessons as necessary to address individual student differences, learning styles, and student abilities.
  • Implement supplemental enrichment lessons that directly connect the learning of the Spanish language to the cultures associated with Spanish language.
  • Utilize identified computer based language acquisition programs to assist in lesson facilitation. Set up students within the programs and maintain their profiles within the computer based programs.
  • Maintain an orderly, positive learning environment free from disruptive behavior by implementing the proactive classroom management strategies the licensed teacher has established for the classroom.
  • Follow the safety instruction for students when the subject, activities, chemicals, product, tools and/or equipment pose possible harm or injury to students including use of personal protective devices (protective eye devices, safe clothing) and assure that students adhere to safety requirements.
  • Model, promote, and as situations arise, take the opportunity to provide instruction related to character education including citizenship and responsible behavior (respect for self, other and property), bullying prevention, conflict resolution skills, and responsible work habits and ethics.
  • Engage in professional learning and utilize feedback from peer and administrative observations to reflect and continually grow professionally.
  • Be familiar with and abide by all applicable Federal and Colorado laws and regulations;
    Board of Education policies and District Regulations, as amended from time to time; school procedures that relate to employment with the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Assure the safety and welfare of students including necessary actions to insure that students are supervised at all times. Demonstrate faithfulness and promptness in attendance mit required reports promptly at the times specified. Demonstrate care of and protection of School District property. Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. Use the District's internet and E-mail system as specified in Policy.

Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or their designees.

Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED.

Experience working with youth and facilitating lessons is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring. Advanced ability to connect the learning of the language with the learning of the culture.

Minimum requirement is a Colorado Substitute Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the Spanish language in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with students with diverse needs at various levels. Critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. Ability to promote and follow Board and District policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Ability to implement 504's and behavior support plans.
