Job DescriptionSGM is seeking a full‑time Water Resources Engineer I or II to reside in one of our Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, or Durango, CO offices and support a wide variety of water resource projects. The incumbent will collaborate with other SGM disciplines to enable timely execution of environment, civil, drinking water, and wastewater projects as needed. Responsibilities may include collecting and processing water resources and water rights data, ArcGIS mapping, designing data collection programs, regulatory permitting support, water rights analysis, project asset management, grant applications, and project financial planning.
Job Duties- Support the technical needs and execution of water resource services including water supply planning and development, groundwater, surface water, and water quality.
- Conduct water rights analyses, such as historical consumptive use, demand and supply, physically and legally available yield, and groundwater movement analyses.
- Communicate effectively with SGM teams and clients.
- Prepare figures, tables, and portions of project memos and reports using strong technical acumen and writing skills.
- Serve as a technical lead for field investigations, data collection, and analysis.
- 0–5 years of experience in water resource consulting and management, including groundwater, surface water hydrology, water rights, and water quality services.
- Interest and willingness to learn Colorado water rights and water resource management, including state, federal, and local drinking water, wastewater, ground and surface water regulations.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop and/or ArcGIS Pro.
- Technical understanding of hydrology principles and ability to independently plan and conduct complex hydrology investigations.
- Initiative to meet task deliverables and learn new skills and software relevant to projects.
- Effective communication with staff and project leadership as well as client needs.
- Outgoing and willing to interact with a wide variety of people.
- Well‑versed in Excel, including tracking, sorting, filtering, manipulating complex datasets, and creating user‑friendly tables and charts.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with permitting and Clean Water Act compliance (preferred).
- Familiarity and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to travel to various project sites, including mountain locations.
