Responsible for maintaining and providing sterile instruments and supplies for surgery. Requires memorization skills and attention to detail. Must hold current sterile processing tech certification or obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Reports to: Director of Perioperative Services or RN Supervisor
Hourly Rate: $ (hourly rate does not include overtime or bonuses which are not guaranteed)
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for sterile processing of instruments, equipment and supplies
- Collects, cleans, Inspects and reassembles instrument sets
- Knowledgeable and maintains competency in the cleaning and processing of sterile equipment, supplies and instruments
- Reviews operating room schedules, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with instrumentation or equipment
- Prepares items for sterilization based on knowledge of sterilization methods required for specific instruments/equipment.
- Properly identifies and delivers the correct items, in a timely fashion to appropriate areas including OR’s, procedure rooms or physician office locations if needed and requested.
- Prepares packs of supplies, instruments, dressing and treatment trays, according to designated lists or codes, and wraps, labels, and seals packs according to standards.
- Other job duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma, G.E.D., or applicable clinical experience such as medical assistant, nurse aides, etc.
Certification, Licensure preferred: CSPDT or CRCST
Experience, Training, Knowledge: Two (2) to three (3) years experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to see in order to read, write, and perform clerical/secretarial job duties. Must be able to hear and speak in order to communicate with others in person and by telephone. Must have manual dexterity to use a computer keyboard and other usual office equipment. Light to moderate physical effort may be required to lift, push and pull carts.
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures:
Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS – Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel
- Hepatitis B
- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals - Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
- Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
- Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
- Tuberculosis Screening
-Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
