Fort Lewis College Physical Plant Services Residential Custodian I
Starting hourly wage: $19.16 per hour. Posted through 11:59 p.m. December 5, 2025. This essential services position is eligible for overtime when preapproved by the supervisor and for call back pay and shift differential when applicable. Covered position under the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs & Services Act.
Responsibilities- Clean entryways, lounges, hallways, communal bathrooms, kitchens, computer labs, and other areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, take trash to dumpster, clean windows, bathroom fixtures, classroom furniture, light fixtures, baseboards, walls, hard surfaces, handrails, stairs, and floor mats using approved cleaning materials and techniques.
- Inspect and keep assigned areas clean and safe; maintain entrances, breezeways, and clear snow, ice, dirt, and debris.
- Shovel snow and distribute salt when necessary.
- Provide set‑up and take‑down support for campus events.
- Work in teams to clean all living spaces after students and conference guests vacate, preparing spaces for new occupancy, including deep cleaning of bedrooms, bathrooms, appliances, furniture, common areas, and carpets.
- Develop rapport with students in assigned buildings; answer questions and provide assistance regarding campus resources and community activities.
- Identify and refer students of concern as needed.
- Restock cleaning materials and chemicals as required.
- Maintain a tidy custodial closet; alert Facilities Supervisor of needed supplies and change vacuum bags and filters as needed.
- Notify Facilities Supervisor or General Laborer of equipment maintenance needs such as broken windows, blinds, appliances, or carpet tears.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. as required.
- Coordinate with co‑workers to achieve team work goals.
- Adapt to last‑minute changes; be flexible and adaptable.
- Work different shifts and weekends to cover all campus activities.
- Six (6) months of relevant experience in a related occupation.
- Basic computer skills for timesheet entry, online training, work orders, emails, and SDS sheets.
- Reading, writing, and oral comprehension.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Active listening skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing demands.
- Physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
- Tolerance of noise, vibration, and inclement weather.
- Ability to respond appropriately to supervision.
- Compliance with policy and procedures.
- Ability to work and communicate with internal and external customers politely and cooperatively. Commitment to quality service.

- Must be able to work during inclement weather, special events, and emergencies; must attend work promptly if campus is closed due to weather.
