Fort Lewis College Physical Plant Services Grounds Department General Labor I

Physical Plant Services (PPS) supports the educational and public service programs of Fort Lewis College through the delivery of effective operational support, maintenance services and the management of the College’s facilities construction program. Services are provided by the Service Center, Custodial Services, Electrical Systems, Electronic Equipment Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Systems Maintenance, Structural Maintenance and Planning, Design & Construction work units.

of Job

This position will provide general labor services for Physical Plant Services with a special emphasis on materials handling, minor vehicle and equipment service, grounds duties, custodial duties, snow removal and assisting other work units within the department.

This position is an essential services position and required to work during inclement weather, campus special events and emergencies. It is eligible for overtime when preapproved by the supervisor, eligible for call back pay, shift differential when applicable and is covered under the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs & Services Act.

Residency Requirement:
Residents and non-residents of Colorado may apply and be hired into this position as the work will be performed primarily at a location that is within 30 miles of the state border.

Conditions of Employment

  • This is an essential services position and must be able to work during inclement weather, special events, and emergencies. If the campus is closed due to inclement weather, this position must be able to get to work on time to assist with weather emergencies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license. Must be in possession of the license at the time of application.
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory review of the driving record by the College insurance agent and the satisfactory driving record must be maintained in order to drive a campus vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must work in proximity to moving, mechanical parts.
  • May encounter exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Works with the following environmental conditions:
    Exposure to weather, extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and/or humid conditions, noise, vibration and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin.
