About the Position

Division Manager – Juvenile Probation Department in Maricopa County. Responsible for leading and overseeing the management of operational areas such as Assessment & Court Reporting, Diversion Screening, Service Delivery, Detention Operations, and Programming Community Standards & Intensive Supervision. Provides strategic leadership, resource and personnel management, and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, organize, and schedule day‑to‑day operational activities of the division.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review work of supervisory staff.
  • Lead system improvement initiatives in juvenile detention alternatives and equity reduction.
  • Ensure safe and secure environment for youth in custody and compliance with all orders.
  • Manage department resources, including budget development and financial analysis.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings, present to advisory committees, and maintain relationships with county and state officials.
  • Serve as acting Deputy Chief Probation Officer when authorized.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Seven (7) years of correctional, probation, or similar work experience, including at least two (2) years supervisory or management experience. Equivalent education and experience may be substituted year‑for‑year.
  • U.S. citizenship or legal resident status; completion of background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
  • If not a Certified Probation Officer, successful completion of a comprehensive background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation before hire, followed by the Probation Officer Certification Academy (two weeks), a week of Defensive Tactics training, and Handle With Care training.
  • Certification as a Probation Officer in Arizona preferred, along with Arizona Defensive Tactics and Handle With Care certifications.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Administrative principles and procedures related to juvenile detention, probation, and caseload management.
  • Law and policy knowledge of juvenile court procedures, state and federal statutes, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency in risk and needs assessment, evidence‑based practices, and program evaluation.
  • Leadership, coaching, team development, and change management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and public‑relations skills.
  • Strategic planning, project management, and resource allocation.
Work Conditions

May require assignments in detention or probation facilities, irregular hours (including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays), and travel to crime scenes. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, weapons, and contagious diseases. The position requires a valid Arizona driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
