Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level II NICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a CO or compact RN license, NRP, and STABLE certification.

Details
  • Level II NICU/Nursery setting within an acute care, Level 2 trauma hospital
  • Unit has 6 designated beds plus 2 transition beds that can overflow to 8 with adequate staffing
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN acuity standards, typically 1:2 or 1:3, with postpartum/well-baby couplets up to 1:3
  • Common diagnoses include TTN, RDS, feeder-growers, hyperbilirubinemia, and hypoglycemia, with RNs attending deliveries
  • Minimal drip titration required beyond general fluids like TPN or dextrose, as higher-acuity infants transfer to a tertiary facility
  • Charge nurse also carries a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides support the unit as part of the LDRP team
  • NNPs available 24/7 with neonatology support via telehealth
  • RT equipment available includes ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and HHFNC
  • No telemetry techs on this unit
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • Night shift schedule, 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM with block scheduling based on unit needs
  • Weekend requirement averages about 4 shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday-Sunday nights)
  • Holiday coverage required
  • On-call and standby rotation required, with one mandatory call shift approximately every 12 weeks
  • Floating required to other departments as helping hands, including the Family Birth Center
  • 36 hours per week guaranteed
Requirements
  • Active State or Compact (NLC) RN license for Colorado required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Active BLS (AHA), NRP, and STABLE certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Level II NICU or comparable acute care NICU experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care to neonates and postpartum mother-baby couplets, attending deliveries as needed
  • Participate in unit-specific orientation lasting 1-2 shifts
  • Clinicians must be in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Professional-colored scrubs permitted per dress code
  • Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
  • First-time travelers may be considered
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
