Position SummaryOpen from 06/30/2026 through 11:59 p.m. 7/31/2026. All applications must be received prior to the closing. This is an essential services position that is eligible for overtime when preapproved by the supervisor. This is a covered position under the Colorado Partnership for Quality Jobs & Services Act. Minimum Qualifications- Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.
- One (1) year of experience in a law enforcement position.
- Patrol (40%) – Conduct motor, bicycle, and foot patrol to deter and discover criminal activity, documenting all incidents including criminal activity, safety and health hazards, unusual or suspicious activities, security problems and deficiencies, take immediate action when required.
- Criminal Investigation (20%) – Process crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, photograph and diagram crime scenes, interview victims, witnesses and suspects, execute search and arrest warrants, assist other law enforcement agencies, proactively enforce drug and alcohol laws and policies, enforce all federal state and local laws and ordinances, and enforce Fort Lewis College rules and regulations.
- Community Relations/Policing (10%) – Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors with directions, advise on crime prevention and personal safety, assist with motor vehicle problems, advise on non‑law‑enforcement problems.
- Documentation & Report Writing (20%) – File appropriate police reports, affidavits, search & arrest warrants, ensure compliance with SB217 regarding body camera recording, complete daily activity log, communicate with supervisors and other departments.
- Traffic (5%) – Direct traffic before and after special events, enforce traffic and parking regulations, issue parking tickets, investigate traffic accidents, administer first aid when necessary, photograph and diagram accident scenes, issue summons, prepare reports and testify in court.
- Training & Certification (5%) – Attend training sessions to keep state certifications current, monitor own training file to ensure compliance and training requirements per CRS 24-31-315.
Essential services position; must work all shifts, emergencies, inclement weather, and cover last‑minute shifts for another officer. Must possess current valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification at the time of hire. Final job offer contingent upon satisfactory review of the driving record and maintenance of a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Positions subject to a background investigation. Physical and psychological evaluations required in accordance with state regulations.
Must maintain a current valid driver license.
