Lift Maintenance Construction
As part of the Lift Maintenance Construction position, you will work with lift mechanics and electricians to perform regular maintenance and repair of all ski lifts and the mountain coaster at Purgatory Resort and occasionally at other MCP resorts. You will also participate in large‑scale ski lift repairs, upgrades, modifications, and equipment installations at Purgatory Resort and other MCP resorts.
- Regular maintenance and repair of ski lifts and the mountain coaster, including inspections, testing, monitoring, maintenance and repair of machinery and components to ensure safe and efficient operation. You will also participate in training of the lift maintenance team and receive training to expand your knowledge, skills and certifications.
- Large‑scale ski lift repairs, upgrades, modifications and equipment installations such as major component removal, overhaul, installation of haul rope replacements, rope splicing, gearboxes and electric motors. You will also be responsible for mechanical and electrical major lift modifications, including drive replacements, control replacements, comm line replacement, excavation, surveying and concrete work.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities- Inspect, test and monitor ski lift machinery and components.
- Execute scheduled maintenance on ski lift machinery, components, tools and buildings.
- Respond to, determine the cause of lift operational problems and implement solutions and repairs.
- Fabricate new components and repair existing components.
- Install new components into ski lifts.
- Remove old components from ski lifts.
- Perform maintenance and repairs according to resort, department, ANSI
B.77 and state policies, procedures and regulations. - Log all maintenance and repairs on log sheets.
- Inform lift maintenance manager of all work in progress and any problems encountered.
- Organize and clean shops, work areas and lift terminals.
- Remove snow from around lift machinery and buildings in winter.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Advanced knowledge of ski lift equipment, terminology and operational procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems and their operation.
- Welding and fabrication with steel, aluminum and stainless steel.
- Rigging and weight estimation experience.
- Concrete forming experience.
- Construction experience.
- Working in an alpine environment.
- Tower climbing experience.
- Ability to hike up and down steep slopes at high elevation.
- Ability to ride a snowmobile.
- Ability to ski or snowboard.
- Making the safety of yourself and others a priority at all times is mandatory.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- A college degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- CDL license is a plus.
- Welding certification is a plus.
- Journeyman or Master electrician license is a plus.
- NDT certification is a plus.
- CPR/first aid certification is a plus.
- Any relevant certification and/or experience is a plus.
The work day is often spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions including snow, extreme cold, heat, rain, wind and lightning. Other times the work day is spent indoors at various locations such as lift terminals, motor rooms, operator houses or in the lift maintenance shop. An average day can consist of walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, twisting and contorting.
Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds, as well as pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 250 pounds is possible.
