The Relief Residential Advocate provides for the protection of the physical and emotional well‑being of the shelter residents. Responsible for providing residents with crisis intervention services and supervising volunteers on a regular basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide protection for the emotional and physical well‑being of residents within program guidelines.
- Participate in general client and house maintenance, supply linen and personal items, implement the client chore schedule, perform bed checks, enforce curfew and other rules, check chore completion, set and check alarms, and ensure clearance during fire drills.
- Provide individual counseling on a weekly basis, assist clients with goal identification, and implement a plan.
- Provide trauma‑informed care.
- Conduct primary intake interviews with new clients, complete required documentation, and determine suitability for admission.
- Answer the crisis line and emergency hotline, maintain awareness of referral resources, and keep associated records.
- Attend staff meetings weekly, in‑service training as required, and meet periodically with the Program Manager.
- Observe clients’ daily behavior and document observations in case notes, daily shift notes, and notes on group sessions.
- Ensure maintenance of the facility as a comfortable and orderly environment and provide direct crisis intervention services.
- Conduct house and group session meetings as assigned.
- Supervise and train new employees and volunteers as assigned.
- Give educational presentations to community groups, attend professional meetings when requested, and conduct on‑site tours.
- Maintain shift log and other paperwork as required.
- Perform job responsibilities in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics.
- Incorporate guest voice into programmatic evaluation and improvement.
- Participate in the on‑call rotation with other Advocates, Senior Managers, and Senior Director.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

- Have knowledge or strong willingness to learn about poverty, human service programs, VOAC solutions, homelessness, aging, veterans, at‑risk youth, and help for the vulnerable.
- Provide supervision and training of new employees and volunteers as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
- One year of human service experience.
- Direct experience with the relevant population preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Windows environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and problem‑solving skills.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license (must pass background, credit, and driving record checks).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform routine lifting and cleaning, walk up and down stairs, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, reach, crouch, squat, lift (30–50 pounds), balance, stand, sit, use hands/fingers, think, calculate, recall, and handle varied indoor and outdoor environments.
