Special Assets Specialist I
SUMMARYThis position is responsible for mitigating losses of First United Bank through collection of past due and charged off loans and demand deposit accounts. Primary focus of Collector I is placing collection calls, sending demand and other collection related letters, and running field calls and repossessions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)- Places calls to loan customers in past due status and updates message board.
- Runs skip traces on customers.
- Issues demand letters to delinquent loan customers.
- Runs field calls.
- Runs repossessions and assigns repossessions to repo agents.
- Completes Special Asset Forms for repo's, charge-offs, and foreclosed assets.
- Organizes and maintains key box.
- Orders titles on repos.
- Files VSI (insurance claims) on damaged repos.
- Assembles post-purchase SBA guaranty packages.
- Shows repossessed items to potential purchasers.
- Prepares Bills of Sale for sold repossessed items.
- Prepares and mails After‑Sale Letters for sold repos.
- Takes checks by phone payments, and sets‑up repayment plans. Assists Bankers Credit Card Service with delinquent customers, as applicable.
- Responds to inquiries from customers, community banks, First United Bank personnel and others, regarding issues on repossessed assets and foreclosed properties.
- Handles customer complaints and escalates issues as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness in and around work station.
- Recommends to supervisor possible methods to improve department.
- Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
- Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures.
- Dresses professionally.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Work Experience- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or finance.
- Prefer one or more year's experience, preferably in a financial institution or consumer loan department.
- Prefer knowledge of consumer collections.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Prefer experience with Jack Henry or other financial management software.
- Candidate should possess the ability to quickly grasp complex rules and guidelines.
- Candidate should enjoy a high‑volume and fast‑paced environment.
- Candidate should possess strong analytical skills and be attentive to detail.
- Candidate should also be courteous and friendly, but able to deal professionally with a variety of personality types.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi‑task are a must.
- Candidate should also be both self‑motivated, and a team player.
- Demonstrates good judgment.
- Ability to communicate well with customers and vendors by all means of communication including written, verbal, and non‑verbal communication.
- Willingness to accept additional responsibilities
- Dependable and adheres to timelines, schedules, and is able to prioritize tasks.
- Must have strong organizational skills to accommodate for the high‑volume workplace.
- Candidate should be comfortable making and answering phone calls.
