Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic
Our client, a leading road construction and rehabilitation company, is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanic to take responsibility for the maintenance, servicing, diagnostics and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy construction plant, earthmoving equipment, road-building machinery and commercial vehicles.
The successful candidate will be a hands‑on mechanical specialist with extensive experience working on diesel-powered heavy equipment, with strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and repairs across the company's heavy plant and vehicle fleet.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults.
- Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime.
- Attend to breakdowns and perform effective fault-finding and repairs both in the workshop and on site.
- Inspect machinery and identify potential mechanical problems before they result in major breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate service, maintenance and repair records for all equipment.
- Conduct engine, transmission, hydraulic and braking system repairs.
- Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel engines and associated fuel systems.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, cylinders and related components.
- Carry out welding, fabrication and general mechanical repairs where required.
- Ensure machinery is maintained according to manufacturer specifications and company maintenance schedules.
- Assist with the commissioning, decommissioning and movement of plant and equipment where required.
- Liaise with operators to identify recurring mechanical faults and equipment performance issues.
- Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Adhere to all company health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Work closely with Operations, Plant and Site Management to ensure maximum equipment availability and minimise downtime.
Strong experience working on road construction, earthmoving and heavy-duty equipment is highly advantageous.

- Qualified Diesel / Heavy-Duty Mechanic or equivalent recognised trade qualification.
- Relevant Red Seal Trade Certificate will be highly advantageous.
- Extensive experience working on heavy-duty plant, earthmoving equipment and/or road construction machinery.
- Proven experience working on diesel-powered equipment.
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and service information.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Willingness to work on-site and respond to equipment breakdowns when required.
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to safe working practices.
