Immediately reports to:
Director of Student Services and Special Education, Principal
Qualifications:
Registered nurse currently licensed by the State of CT
At least one year work experience as a professional nurse in the past five years, as per the CT Public Health Codes
Current in CPR
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implements nursing services in an educational setting
Demonstrates an understanding of information necessary to enable maximum job performance utilizing nursing knowledge
Makes informed medical decisions using available data and information
Assumes responsibility for the care of students or staff who have routine and emergency illness or injury
Follows through on health related recommendations from outside health professionals and reports results as needed
Provides individualized health counseling and guidance to pupils, parents and school personnel
Acts as a resource to students, staff and parents
Provides training to certified educational staff and paraprofessionals in approved health care activities such as Epi-pen training and medication administration, as per state guidelines and Board policies
Supplements school health program within his/her school as needed
Maintains a complete up-to-date factual cumulative health record, including comprehensive health history and/or care plan when appropriate, for each student
Performs all state required screenings and notifies parents and/or refers results to physician where appropriate
Obtains health history on all new school entrants
Develops and communicates nursing care plan and/or emergency care plan with student, faculty and parents and staff
Establishes meaningful dialogue with staff to increase their understanding of individual student health problems and the possible need of classroom adaptations
Communicates necessary information to case manager of identified students
Informs staff, students and their parents of school policy and state laws regarding administration of medication during school hours
Creates and maintains a safe and responsive health room atmosphere. Encourages students to seek and maintain good health and safety practices.
Collaborates with other school professionals, parents and caregivers to meet the health and development needs of students in an educational setting
Participates in PPTs, SAT, 504, and team meetings and fulfills his/her responsibilities as assigned in this capacity
Utilizes community agencies as resources and facilitates intervention with students and their families when appropriate
Attends faculty and department meetings as well as meetings pertaining to special services and health concerns for students
Follows the policies and procedures of the school district
Participates in professional growth activities
Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility
Performs any other medical and/health-related duties and responsibilities associated with the position
Supports and promotes the District's Core Ethical Values with students, colleagues, and parents
Strives to implement the District's mission, goals and objectives outlined in the District's Strategic Plan
