We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant with strong manufacturing cost accounting experience to support corporate accounting, inventory accuracy, financial reporting, and cost analysis across manufacturing operations.
This role is based in the corporate office and is not a plant-level accounting position. The Senior Cost Accountant will partner with corporate finance, accounting, operations, supply chain, and plant leadership to analyze manufacturing costs, support inventory controls, improve reporting, and ensure accurate financial results.
The ideal candidate understands how manufacturing activity flows through the ERP system and general ledger, including standard costing, inventory movement, cost of goods sold, variance analysis, BOMs, routings, cycle counting, and month-end close.
What You’ll Do- Support corporate cost accounting activities related to inventory, standard costing, COGS, and manufacturing financial reporting
- Analyze manufacturing costs, including material, labor, overhead, purchase price variances, usage variances, and production variances
- Partner with plant finance and operations teams to understand cost drivers, inventory activity, and manufacturing performance
- Reconcile inventory, manufacturing, and cost accounting-related general ledger accounts
- Review inventory movement, cycle count results, and physical inventory activity to ensure accuracy within the ERP system
- Support standard cost updates, cost rolls, BOM/routing reviews, and inventory valuation processes
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to cost accounting and inventory
- Prepare cost accounting reports and analysis for corporate finance and operational leadership
- Identify trends, issues, and opportunities related to inventory accuracy, production costs, margins, waste, and efficiency
- Support internal controls, audit requests, and process improvement initiatives related to inventory and manufacturing accounting
- Work cross-functionally with accounting, finance, supply chain, operations, and plant teams to improve reporting and decision-making
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3+ years in manufacturing cost accounting
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, COGS, and variance analysis
- Experience supporting cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with cycle counts, physical inventory, inventory reconciliation, and ERP inventory transactions
- Ability to analyze manufacturing activity and explain the financial impact of inventory and production variances
- Strong month-end close and general ledger reconciliation experience
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, plant finance, and corporate accounting teams
- Strong Excel skills and experience working in an ERP system
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and process-improvement focused
- CPA or CMA is a plus
- Experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
- Experience with BOMs, routings, standard cost rolls, and inventory valuation
- Experience supporting audits, internal controls, and corporate reporting
