As the Bookkeeper for the Identity and Cultural Centers (ICCs), you will play a critical role in supporting programs, initiatives, and student experiences that foster inclusion, belonging, and cultural engagement across campus. Be Bold.As the primary financial liaison for the Identity and Cultural Centers, you will manage financial operations, ensure fiscal accuracy, and provide trusted guidance to staff and university partners. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting programs and initiatives that enrich the Duke student experience while maintaining sound financial stewardship.
What You'll Do:- Serve as the lead financial resource for the Identity and Cultural Centers, providing guidance and support on financial processes and procedures.
- Process invoices, vouchers, payment requests, purchase orders, and other financial transactions with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Monitor, reconcile, and maintain financial accounts while tracking expenditures and budget activity.
- Reconcile procurement card transactions across six Identity and Cultural Centers.
- Maintain detailed electronic records of departmental budgets and expenditures, providing financial updates and insights to center leadership.
- Analyze financial data and prepare comprehensive financial reports and statements for leadership review and decision-making.
- Collaborate with university departments and administrative offices to verify financial records and ensure compliance with Duke policies and procedures.
- Respond to inquiries and prepare correspondence related to financial transactions, accounting practices, and university financial policies.
- Serve as a liaison to Student Affairs Human Resources and Student Affairs Finance & Administration.
- Manage and oversee expenditures for departmental programs and special initiatives, including major events and community engagement activities.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Identity and Cultural Centers by supporting departmental priorities and special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the ICCs.
Required Qualifications Education
- Knowledge of general accounting principles typically acquired through two years of post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Three years of accounting or financial management experience, including maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports.
- Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience will be considered.
- Experience working with SAP or similar enterprise financial systems.
- Experience supporting budgets, financial reporting, and account reconciliations in a higher education, nonprofit, or complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI-enabled tools and technologies.
- Strong accounting, bookkeeping, and financial reconciliation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze financial information and prepare meaningful reports.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
