As the Dean’s Office Assistant, you’ll be a vital part of a collaborative and highly visible office supporting the Dean, faculty, and the broader Duke Law community.
What You’ll Do:Administrative & Office Operations
- Serve as the Dean’s Office liaison with Law School administrative personnel, university offices, and external agencies.
- Provide general administrative support to the Dean’s Office.
- Provide backup administrative support to the Assistant to the Dean.
- Maintain files, records, reports, and correspondence.
- Greet visitors and manage traffic into the Dean’s Suite.
- Answer and manage the Dean’s Office telephone line.
- Manage scheduling for the Nasher Conference Room.
- Demonstrate exceptional professionalism, confidentiality, and interpersonal skills.
- Serve as a courteous, respectful, and polished first point of contact for the Dean’s Office.
- Provide administrative support to key faculty committees.
- Support faculty reappointment processes.
- Assist with adjunct faculty onboarding.
- Compile information for the University Bulletin.
- Support Professional Skills Appointments hiring searches.
- Process procurement card purchases, travel, requisitions, and reimbursements.
- Verify and reconcile expenditures.
- Maintain accurate financial records.
- Assist with special projects and programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Two years of post-secondary education in secretarial science or a related business field.
- Four years of related secretarial/clerical experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exceptional organization and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and follow‑through.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $19.80 to USD $30.63. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical/dental programs, retirement benefits, and family‑friendly programs.
