Position Overview

Working Title: Temporary Administrative Office Assistant

The primary purpose of this position is to manage student records, financial, and administrative support duties in the Department of History. Responsibilities include office management, purchasing, budget, reports, travel authorizations, chair's calendar, facility and data management, and providing administrative support to the chairperson and faculty. The role also involves maintaining and operating office equipment, and serving as an internal/external liaison between department, faculty, students, university administration, and community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage student records and financial documentation.
  • Perform office management tasks including purchasing and budget oversight.
  • Prepare and file reports, authorize travel, maintain chair’s calendar, and coordinate facility needs.
  • Operate and inventory office equipment.
  • Serve as liaison among department, faculty, students, university administration, and community.
  • Execute other administrative duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Student Banner or equivalent system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of student retention issues and strategies.
  • Knowledge of campus budget and office management practices.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate programs and write reports.
  • Planning skills for special events and meetings.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent editing and interpersonal skills for high‑pressure environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative.
Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Additional qualifications may include experience in a higher‑education administrative setting.

Compensation & Employment Details

Position Number: SH9979

FLSA: Non‑Exempt

Appointment Type: Temporary – Part Time, 20 hours per week for 12 months (FTE .5)

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour (actual range may vary).

Work Hours: 8 am – 5 pm

Open Date: 02/18/2026

Close Date: 02/24/2026
