Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy seeks a Communications & Administrative Specialist to support multiple initiatives including the World Food Policy Center, SEAREG, and the broader Sanford Communications and Marketing team. The role combines communications, digital engagement, event execution, and administrative operations.
What You'll Do- WFPC Communications and Events (40%)
- Implement website maintenance and content strategy.
- Write narratives, newsletters, and other communications.
- Proofread reports, memos, and presentations.
- Plan and support 1–2 WFPC events per semester and broader Sanford events.
- Sanford Administrative Support (40%)
- Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and coordinate room reservations.
- Handle Concur processing and procurement of supplies.
- Assist with event logistics for Distinguished Lectures and dean priority events.
- Support multimedia projects and podcasts; take notes at staff meetings.
- SEAREG (15%)
- Serve as primary communications contact for SEAREG.
- Maintain SEAREG website, manage mailing lists, and draft news releases.
- Other Responsibilities (5%)
- Perform related duties incidental to the work described herein.
A bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, political science, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
4–5 years of clerical or research experience, with 1–2 years of professional communications experience including website management. Skilled in content creation, editing, and event support, with strong organizational and collaborative abilities.
Preferred knowledge of public policy and food system issues, experience with Canva or similar design tools, and familiarity with social media platforms.
CompensationAnticipated Pay Range: USD $19.80 to $30.63 per hour. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical, dental, retirement benefits, and other family-friendly programs.
