POSITION NUMBERGENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe primary purpose of the Senior Processing Assistant position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Allied Health (Laboratory and Pharmacy) division of the Durham County Department of Public Health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- This position will serve as a backup for front desk personnel with tasks to include greeting guests, monitoring telephone calls and directing guests to service.
- This position is responsible for maintaining employee training files and related documentation in an organized, easily retrievable manner as well as managing the inventory through the Kanban system and placing laboratory orders.
- This position will maintain the division's calendar, compile statistical data and create reports.
- This position is also responsible for scheduling and maintaining accurate laboratory calibration records and reports.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Independent functioning with excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
- Must be able to read and interpret technical data.
- Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Epic.
- Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.
- Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
- Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment.
- Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.
- Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.
- Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations.
- Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.
- Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature.
- May require ability to supervise and coordinate the work of other staff, student workers or volunteers.
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
VACCINATION AND TB SCREENING REQUIREMENTS- Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccination/immunity
- Varicella-Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) vaccination/immunity
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
- Tuberculosis (TB) baseline screening within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment
- Hepatitis B vaccination/immunity – only required for employees with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposures.
Identified employees with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposure have an additional requirement for the Hepatitis B vaccination. Required vaccination, serological testing to determine immunity, and baseline tuberculosis screening are available for all Public Health employees who elect to become patients upon request and at no cost. Proof of vaccination and tuberculosis screening must be provided to Human Resources within seven (7) business days prior to the date of employment.
