Day Shift- 3-12 hour shifts per week 7:00am-7:30pm

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) supports patient care by providing essential clerical and administrative services within the patient care unit. This role serves as a central communication resource for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff while ensuring accurate management of patient records, scheduling activities, and departmental operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, providing courteous and professional customer service.
- Answer and direct telephone calls, relay messages, and respond to patient requests appropriately.
- Manage patient records by maintaining charts, preparing documents, and uploading information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Navigate EMR systems to access patient information, generate reports, schedule appointments, and manage task lists.
- Coordinate patient transportation requests using available technology.
- Assist with unit operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, copying, filing, mailing, and distributing materials.
- Maintain departmental records such as timekeeping information, compliance reports, and continuing education documentation.
- Support onboarding activities by assisting with clerical training for new staff members.
- Schedule maintenance requests and generate reports as directed by leadership.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Conduct patient rounds to introduce services and address questions or concerns.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. - Experience:
Minimum of six (6) months of customer service experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of general clerical and office procedures.
- Understanding of medical terminology and healthcare information systems.
- Ability to navigate electronic medical record systems and office technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional telephone etiquette.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, and team members.
- Ability to work tactfully and courteously in a customer-focused healthcare environment.
