In this role, you will contribute to a dynamic and evolving arts environment while gaining hands‑on experience in financial processing, marketing and communications, staff supervision, and event programming.
What You'll Do:Program & Workshop Coordination
- Provide program coordination support for the Duke Arts Create workshop season (80‑100 workshops annually) and the Arts+ 2027 summer program (May‑June).
- Assist with scheduling artists and locations.
- Maintain all necessary paperwork for artist honorariums and facilitate all financial transactions.
- Maintain detailed records of workshops and complete assessments for all relevant partners.
- Manage purchasing and maintenance of workshop supplies with a focus on sustainability and local purchasing.
- Oversee material storage and organization.
- Coordinate space reservations for workshops, both on campus and with community partners.
- Attend and facilitate workshops, including setup, cleanup, and front‑of‑house participant check‑in.
- Supervise one graduate assistant supporting workshop offerings.
- Build and implement individual team and full cohort schedules for the Arts+ summer program.
- Facilitate the student application process for the Arts+ program.
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications unit to publish and promote workshops across Duke Arts website, Duke Groups, Duke Events Calendar, and community platforms.
- Create the program's monthly newsletter.
- Collaborate with Green Devils interns to conduct artist interviews and publish promotional stories.
- Perform general office duties in support of the Duke Arts team as needed.
Education & Skills
- Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in an arts practice field or relevant humanities/interpretive social science discipline (e.g., English, History, Communication Studies).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to excel as an independent and flexible worker who adapts to evolving needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with undergraduate students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and visiting artists.
- At least two years of directly related experience in event management or leadership in student organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent completion of a Duke MA, MEM, or MFA program in an arts practice field or related discipline or interdisciplinary field.
- Experience working in the arts and in an office environment with competing priorities.
- Experience with photographic and video documentation and writing copy.
This is a one‑year, full‑time (40 hours/week) on‑campus position, with remote workdays possible based on the event schedule. Evening and occasional weekend work is expected based on workshop programming needs.
Compensation & BenefitsAnticipated Pay Range: $18.00 – $22.84 USD annually (base salary).
