- Buy provides strategic leadership for Duke University's Home Grown
- Buy initiative, advancing Duke's economic mobility strategy through intentional local sourcing, supplier development, and community engagement across Duke University Health System (DUHS) and Duke University (DU). Reporting through Shared Services, this position develops, implements, and sustains a best-in‑class Home Grown
- Buy program aligned with Duke's strategic sourcing, financial stewardship, and operational excellence objectives. The Director partners with Strategic Sourcing, Business Owners, Community Affairs, Finance, the Shared Services Contracting Office, and external organizations to expand Duke's local supplier ecosystem, identify sourcing opportunities, and deliver measurable economic impact while balancing quality, service, compliance, risk, and total value.
- Lead the Home Grown
- Buy strategy, governance framework, and multi‑year roadmap. - Maintain a rolling 12‑month sourcing opportunity pipeline.
- Develop executive dashboards, KPIs, and governance reporting.
- Partner with Strategic Sourcing to identify opportunities for qualified local suppliers.
- Analyze enterprise spend and develop sourcing recommendations.
- Support sourcing events and coordinate with the Shared Services Contracting Office.
- Develop Duke's local supplier ecosystem across Durham, the Triangle, and North Carolina.
- Build relationships with Chambers of Commerce, economic development organizations, and community partners.
- Lead supplier access sessions, outreach events, and Duke Ready initiatives.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for Duke Supply Chain Management.
- Support annual economic mobility and local spend goals.
- Lead implementation of the Home Grown Buy Management Platform.
- Develop analytics and executive reporting.
- Develop and deliver polished executive‑level presentations, strategic business cases, and recommendations.
- Translate complex sourcing, supplier, financial, and operational data into concise executive communications.
- Present quarterly business reviews and annual updates to executive leadership and governance committees.
- Represent Duke with executive leadership, suppliers, community organizations, and strategic partners.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Economic Development, or related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- PMP, CPSM, CSCP, or APICS/ASCM certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier development, economic development, community engagement, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise‑wide initiatives and cross‑functional teams.
- Experience developing strategic sourcing roadmaps, executive dashboards, governance reporting, and executive business cases.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver executive‑level presentations to senior leadership and governance committees.
- Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and relationship management skills.
