Cabarrus County Parks and Active Living is excited to announce that we are ramping up for the summer and would like to give you the opportunity to join our Seasonal Team as Camp Counselors!
Cabarrus County Parks is the hub of activity during the summer season. Our parks offer a variety of activities including summer camp, kayaking, pool, tennis courts, miniature golf, and fishing. We strive to offer a premier outdoor experience for all visitors.
Camp OverviewCabarrus County Camps challenge the minds of campers with age‑appropriate interactive projects, promote healthy bodies, and introduce campers to nature.
Our day camp is open to campers ages 6‑14, Monday–Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Each age group has specialized activities to keep them engaged. Camp includes:
- Clubs like gardening, sports and crafts
- Trips every week
- Age‑appropriate games
- A trip to Camp TN Spencer Park for swimming
Summer Camp operates from June 1st – July 31st, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm. A Spring Break Camp runs the week of March 9th – 13th.
Starting pay is $15.44 plus per hour, no previous work experience required, and we offer flexible work schedules.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral definition of work:
Perform responsible work for summer day camp programs and activities offered to youth participants under the general supervision of the Senior Counselor.
Essential functions and typical tasks:
- Assist in planning, leading, instructing and demonstrating all special programs and activities of the summer day camp program.
- Supervise program participants.
- Prepare and maintain records and files.
- Apply and adhere to Parks Department summer camp rules and regulations.
- Mentor program participants.
- Model and teach socialization skills and implement the summer camp curriculum.
- Provide effective, non‑punitive guidance and concern for each participant and the participant group as a whole.
- Interact with parents and answer general questions in person.
- Transport and/or accompany participants on educational and recreational trips.
- Assist in evaluating the summer programs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work location.
- Secure monies collected.
- Perform related tasks as required.
Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the summer camp program rules, regulations, functions and the principles of creating, organizing, and conducting youth summer programs; knowledge of principles of meeting developmental needs of children; ability to speak clearly, give oral directions, understand and follow written and oral instructions, and work independently; ability to work with people from all socioeconomic levels; ability to establish and maintain discipline, organized structure, and safety for youth in group settings;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, and the general public.
- Preferred CPR and First Aid certification.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (passenger and school bus) valid in North Carolina (not required).
- Experience working with youth ages 6‑15; past youth programming experience strongly preferred but not required.
Requires high school graduation or equivalent. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Special RequirementsPossession of current CPR and first aid certifications or obtain prior to beginning of summer camp session. May require possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger and School Bus endorsement valid in North Carolina. Position may be a safety‑sensitive position as defined by the Drug‑Free Workplace Policy. Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
