Summary
The Construction Field Assistant performs a wide variety of tasks in the field assisting with planning, installation, and maintenance of piping systems to serve residential, commercial and industrial customers. This individual’s primary work is installing new underground piping but may also include repairs to underground piping in addition to other projects requiring excavation or other equipment. Daily responsibility with close oversight from a supervisor or other employee may include but are not limited to pipe fusing, pipe and tracer wire installation, pressure testing, and ground restoration.
Responsibilities- Follow Crew Lead and other senior team members directions on new construction activities.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment necessary for job functions.
- Control job inventory.
- Self‑inspect company construction activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of company Operations and Maintenance Manuals and Construction Manuals.
- Maintain operator qualifications.
- Respond to emergency situations.
- High school diploma required.
- Valid motor vehicle license required.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing is crucial for ease of understanding between customers, authorities, and fellow employees.
- An analytical ability to investigate electrical and mechanical indications and use them to arrive at solutions to complex problems facilitates job duties immensely.
- Must be bondable with no record of felony convictions.
- Experience with Microsoft Office or similar computer programs is desirable.
- General knowledge of pipeline safety regulations put forth by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Maintain a working knowledge of company Operations and Maintenance Manual and Construction Manuals.
Daily activity is fast paced
, physically demanding, and with production goals. Duties involve heavy lifting and manual labor. The individual must be available for emergency call‑outs, be able to work extended hours, and job‑site reporting is common. Majority of the workday is spent outdoors; therefore this individual is exposed to extremes of heat, cold, noise, and dust, as well as construction equipment and normal driving hazards.
