Position OverviewProvide front‑line telephone support as the primary point of contact for the North Carolina Central University telecommunications system. Handle an average of 3,000+ calls per month, directing callers to the appropriate department or person. Serve university students, faculty, staff, and external callers with clear, courteous, and efficient service.

Operate the university switchboard, processing incoming calls by forwarding, transferring, or providing direct contact information. Serve as the first level of support for callers to the university telephone system and for informational requests. Provide current information on faculty, staff, student, and student organization telephone numbers, and answer general questions about campus events and activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities• Working knowledge of switchboard consoles, including answering, transferring, and directing local and long‑distance calls.
• Ability to provide friendly, efficient frontline customer service to internal and external customers.
• Clear verbal communication, listening skills, and good diction/grammar.
• Ability to sit for 8 hours and work independently with little supervision.
• Ability to multitask while on the phone and proactively assist callers.
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Work HoursMonday – Friday 8:00 – 17:00. The position may require work during adverse weather or emergencies.

- Attention to Detail: Screen and direct requests, answer general questions, and transfer calls efficiently.
- Communication – Oral: Provide clear verbal communication to students, faculty, staff, and the public; maintain good voice quality and diction; multitask while on the phone.
