We design places people actually want to be in. Mixed-use, adaptive reuse and repositioning projects, campuses, streetscapes, and all the spaces in between. When you join Little, you join a national team that looks past the obvious to find better design solutions, the kind that lift client performance, tread lightly on the planet through sustainable and regenerative practices, and help communities thrive.
In short, we're here to create a better future, and we have a good time doing it.
Little, nationally recognized as a “Best Firm to Work For” and one of the nation's most progressive design firms, is looking for a Senior Landscape Architect with a positive, collaborative work style to help lead the design efforts of our Land Development Studio in our Durham, NC office.
This is a senior role with real room to grow. You'll shape site and planting designs from concept through construction, work side by side with our civil engineers and other disciplines under one roof, and help guide the next generation of designers on our team. If you want a clear path toward greater responsibility and project leadership, this is a place to build it.
A word on the Durham studio: it's a really good place to land. The team is close, the work is varied, and people here like showing up. You'll be based here in the heart of the Triangle, one of the country's best regions for design talent, top universities, and quality of life.
What you'll do
- Lead the design of land development projects, from early concept and site planning through planting design and construction documents.
- Own the design vision on your projects and carry it from first sketch through to built work.
- Provide design direction and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff. You'll review their work, coach them, and help them grow.
- Work directly with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, including our in-house civil engineers, and keep the design intent intact across disciplines.
- Research and document permitting processes for new jurisdictions and keep projects moving through review.
- Set the bar for design quality, detail, and follow-through on every project.
You're a candidate we'll love if:
- You're a talented designer with experience across a broad range of clients, and a resourceful, creative problem solver.
- You bring good energy. You like the work and the people, and it shows in how you show up.
- You're good with people. You listen well, you're truly interested in others, and you build consensus among clients and teammates alike.
- You enjoy teaching. You like helping less experienced designers sharpen their skills and grow their careers.
- You're a strong communicator, both on paper and out loud. You make complex ideas simple, and you hear what people are really saying.
- You like the puzzle of a new jurisdiction, and you don't mind digging into the permit research to solve it.
- You're passionate about design and sweat the details.
This is a position you'll love if:
- You want to work directly with clients and a multidisciplinary team on projects throughout the Carolinas.
- You want to grow. You're looking for a firm that will invest in your development and open doors as you're ready for them.
- You want a high degree of autonomy and responsibility, with room to take on more over time.
- You value the chance to mentor others and lift the team, not just deliver your own work.
Ideal candidates will have:
- A degree in Landscape Architecture.
- Registration as a Landscape Architect. Licensure in more than one state, or the ability to obtain it, is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience, including some experience guiding or reviewing the work of other designers.
- Strong skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Sketch Up, Photoshop, and other design software.
- LEED, SITES, or similar sustainability accreditation preferred.
