Neonatology Faculty

The Division of Neonatal‑Perinatal Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine (SOM) has an opening for a new faculty member starting in the 2025‑2026 academic year, at the assistant professor level.

Ideal candidates are graduating neonatology fellows or early career neonatologists who are highly motivated to contribute significantly to the clinical mission, and collaborate with members of the Duke Health community to advance our education and research missions.

• Develop and expand programs focused on patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
• Guideline development and education of faculty and staff.
• Clinical application of informatics and analytics.
• Implementation science.

The Neonatology faculty provide patient care at two sites:

• Duke Hospital: 74‑bed Level IV NICU (expanding to 81 beds by end of 2026)
• Duke Regional Hospital: 18‑bed Level II NICU in Durham County

Duke is collaborating with the State of North Carolina and UNC Health System to develop the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, projected to open between 2033 and 2035.

The Division is a respected and active member of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver NICHD Neonatal Research Network (NRN). Duke’s NICU has among the lowest mortality and bronchopulmonary dysplasia rates in U.S. tertiary centers.

The Division is engaged in over a dozen clinical trials (sponsored and investigator‑initiated), either in preparation, enrollment, or follow‑up. Details on the Division’s clinical research and trials are available on the Duke Neonatal Perinatal Research Unit (NRPU) website.

Member of the Vermont Oxford Network since 2008, with a focus on implementation science, quality improvement (QI), and patient safety.

Maintains a robust, evidence‑based guideline development process aiming for excellence in neonatal care.

Three faculty members are clinician‑scientists with research expertise in:

• Microbiome and metabolomics
• Neural injury and repair
• Developmental immunology
